Down Business Centre was formed in 1986 and is a local enterprise agency in the Newry Mourne & Down council area. The company is a not-for-profit organisation and works for the benefit of the local community by supporting new and existing small business and and playing an active part in business development at local, regional and national levels.
The Company has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Newry & Mourne Enterprise Agency to formalise a long standing working partnership.
The agency is staffed by a small team of dedicated personnel who offer a high level of business experience and professional competence.
Janice, a Business Studies graduate, has worked for the Centre for 27 of its 30 year history. She has a particular interest in small business having grown up within a local family business in Newcastle seeing first hand the amount of hard work and determination needed to make a business successful.
Janice has delivered training and mentoring on numerous business support programmes to both new start clients and existing business clients and is proud of the impact Down Business Centre has made on the economic profile of the local area.
Business Startup and
Joe has been supporting local businesses for more than 30 years. He specialises in Business Planning and identifying funding support for businesses, as well as the preparation of marketing action plans.
He is also a part-time author and has a published a range of action thriller novels.
Property & Accounts Manager
Karen Branagan is our Property and Accounts Manager and has worked for the Company since 1998.
Karen has responsibility for the day-to-day book-keeping of the Down Business Centre, where she manages the accounts for a variety of programmes, including the handling of claims from funding organisations.
Joan started working in the Local Enterprise Network in Belfast while completing her postgraduate in Business and ICT and has worked at Down Business Centre as a Business Adviser for 12 years.
Joan is involved in business training and mentoring and works across a range of programmes assisting both new business starts and existing businesses. Seeing peoples business dreams grow from an idea into a successful venture, is what Joan cites as the most rewarding and satisfying part of the job.
Andrea Boyd has worked for Down Business Centre since 2000 and is now receptionist and administrator of all our support programmes.
She has experience providing administration backup to the Company team working on a large number of programmes. She is also responsible for the co-ordination of office administration work and the supervision of the support staff team.
